HTF FOR THERMAL ENERGY STORAGE: AGING OF METALLIC MATERIALS WITH MOLTEN SALTS

Short description

Compatibility and corrosion behaviour of different metallic construction materials (plain and/or coated carbon steels and stainless steel alloys) in contact with the molten salts (MS) mixtures.

Main technical features

Corrosion rate evaluation of different metallic materials in contact with different molten salts;

Long term corrosion rate estimation;

Characterization of oxide scales by XRD and SEM/EDS and prediction of the corrosion type and mechanism.

Innovative aspects

To understand the interaction of the different metallic materials in contact with new molten salts at high temperature

Applications

Thermal energy storage
